Blogging at 2.30 am - get a life

I'm finding it very difficult to sleep during the night. We've tried various remedies, including tonight the old warm milk trick, no matter how hard I try, I can't get past 12midnight, then I wake up about every twenty minutes for the next five hours - yuck. So tonight something different - get up and do some emails and computer work.

Tomorrow the doctor is coming down to give me the once over, and I'm to have some blood tests. Should be interesting to see what the tests say, because "your skin is much better looking today".

I've had a lot of visitors over the past week or so, mostly to say goodbye. Some have been harrowing, some touching - all tiring. More today and tomorrow. When I think about it, tho, I'm not going anywhere, so why not?

Oh , incidentally, there is nothing on night-time tv except skin care and and ancient movie on the ABC. So dull - stay in bed.

Dear Tony,
It was great to see you on Saturday with David. The persona of Tony D'Arcy hasn't changed, only his ability to do lots of stuff, and for you to be able to show that under the circumstances you find yourself in says a lot about you. You certainly have been a role model for David, and he really appreciates it (as do Glenda and I).

Federal Golf Club is designing and implementing a seat at the back of the 12th tee in your honour, and naturally it will have a plaque, the wording of which is up for grabs. Perhaps your regular fans could assist with this using your blog, and of course if you have a feeling for a particular expression eg 'bugger, I almost never hit this green', 'should have pulled the 5 iron', or possibly something more cerebral (and worthy of you), then it will be given strong consideration!

They seat should be in place by Tuesday 12 Feb, and may be as early as Friday the 8th. Photographs will be taken for distribution on your website!

Take care mate. Peter.

Dearest Tony,

I'm not sure if you will get to read this because I know you left home for hospital earlier today, but ...

Goodbye my very dear friend. Goodbye ...

Hi friends of Tony,
I've taken the liberty to give an update on Tony through this medium as I know that you would want to know how he is going.
I had a chat with Gaye this morning, and as Dennis rightly indicates, Tony is in hospital. He decided that this was the better option for him as he is very weak and unable to get up and move around without help at times. He is sleeping a lot and can drift off while people are talking to him, but while awake he is still the same old Tony, the one we all love and the one we will all remember, the one who always has put others ahead of himself. A true hero.
If you can think of something you would like to see on the plaque for the bench at Federal Golf Club, could you please put a comment on the website - anonymous or with your name is fine. Take care.

Wow, I've just read through the blog again and what an incredible journey. All worked through considerately and with the subtle emotions that underplay your approach to life.

No thoughts on golf benches and can't find the words that best describe our loss.

I'll miss you Tony - but I hope to feel your presence daily.

Tony.
I was able to fix your gates and other bits and pieces, I have been searching for a tool so that I would be able to make some repairs to your problem but unfortunatly my search has proved fruitless. It was a pleasure to have known you
God Bless

Tony,
Since 'Day One' you have inspired so many of us with your bravery, courage, determination, optimism and fighting spirit. We have followed you on your rollercoaster journey until now when, as you said to us just four nights ago, you have reached a path you cannot get off.
There are so many adjectives that describe you and what you have meant to us all -- these all appear throughout the numerous comments on your blog site.
You leave us with many great and happy memories. But one memory we will never forget is that most beautiful and loving look you and Gaye exchanged with each other last Sunday when she and Nic returned to the Palliative Care Ward at Mt Olivet after their brief lunchbreak.
It was good to see you so calm, relaxed, reconciled and peaceful, but still with that wry smile and quick wit which we have all enjoyed over the years.
God bless dear friend. We will miss you but will, as you requested, look out for Gaye and help her in any way we can. You have certainly left her (and the grandchildren) with a beautiful home and pool to enjoy.
Margaret & Brendon

To all of Tony's many friends throughout the world, it is with deepest sadness that I can report our mate lost his battle on February 5th at approximately 4:20am. Gaye & Robbie were at his side.

R.I.P. Tony, give 'em plenty of cheek wherever you are.....

Remembered with love and respect.

Mark & Claire in Brizzy.

Vale Tony D'Arcy. There are those who stand out from the crowd and you were foremost among them - for all the right reasons.

Say goodbye I must, but forget I will not.

Dear Brother Tony
Your old mates from the Class of 70 will be saddened as they learn of your passing, but overjoyed at the opportunity they had to know you during our time together all those years ago. We are all especially blessed to have to have reconnected with you since our gathering at Easter 1997 back at the old joint! And we will never forget your tints at our gathering in Sydney in October 2006 - you made many of us so envious that you looked the youngest and fittest amongst your 50 something classmates. You will remain at the forefront of our thoughts and will be the guest of honour at our 2010 gathering marking our 40th anniversary! Of course our hearts go out to Gaye and your family who have lost their loving husband, father and grandfather.
Vale dear brother of ours.
